Petty Officer 1st Class Charles Komppa of Montana was from Belgrade, but his family moved to Absarokee about five years before so he could take a job as an electrician at the Stillwater Mine. He and his family lived for about two to three years in Belgrade, where Komppa worked as a boiler plant operator for Montana State University. He originally was from Texas. He joined the United States Navy shortly after graduating from high school. He was a sailor in the Navy Reserve when he was mobilized, having only arrived in Iraq about a month. He was part of the Seabees and was doing electrician work. He supported his country and believed in what he was doing in Iraq. Chuck is survived by his wife, Delisa, and two children, a son and daughter, and his parenrs, Gary Steven Komppa and Margaret Rose Bradshaw. In April 2007 the Navy's portion of the Billings Armed Forces Reserve Center as the Charles V. Komppa Wing. He was 35.
