British Nobility. 1st Duke of Somerset. Brother of Jane Seymour, Henry VIII's third wife, and uncle to the boy King Edward VI, he headed the Coucil of Regency after the death of Henry VIII and became Lord Protector of the Realm. His ideas of liberty were in contrast with those of most Tudor statesmen which led to his fall and execution.
