She is enumerated with her son Michael in the 1856 state Iowa census in Harrison, Benton, Iowa as Jane Shoemaker, widowed.
She was enumerated in the 1860 census as Jame [sic] Shoemaker in her son Michiel [sic] Shoemaker's household in Harrison, Benson, Iowa, family #65. By this time she was 86 years of age.
By the 1870 census, her daughter-in-law, nancy was widowed and listed as the head of the household in Harrison, Benton, Iowa. Jane is not listed with her. It is very likely that Jane died by this census and is buried somewhere in Benton Co. Iowa.
