Jane Burnett Sawyer, age 89 of Newport News, Va., died peacefully May 14, 2013 with family at her bedside. Jane was born and grew up in Bridgeport and graduated from Harding HS in 1941. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Ralph "Bill" Sawyer, also of Bridgeport and she is survived by their three children and six grandchildren. Jane and Bill lived for many years in Monroe and were active members of the Long Hill UMC until retiring to Florida in 1980 and they were active members of the Stratford Square Dance Club. Jane was a lifelong learner, an avid bingo player and a source of encouragement to all she met and will live on in our memories. Interment will be at Lawncroft Cemetery, 1740 Black Rock Turnpike in Fairfield on Friday, July 5, 2013 at 11 a.m. A brief grave-side memorial service is planned and those who knew Jane are welcome.
