PORTLAND -- Robert W. Libby, 78, of Forest Avenue, beloved husband of 49 years to the late Charlotte M. Libby, passed away May 13, 2009, after a long battle with cancer.

He was born Dec. 2, 1930, in Portland, to the late Walton and Lucille (Wiggin) Libby. Bob graduated from Deering High School in 1948, from Burdett College in 1950, served in the U.S. Air Force and then graduated from the University of Maine at Orono in 1957. For years Bob worked at the Portland Pipeline Corporation, E.C. Jordon Co. and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Maine where he retired in 1990. In his retirement Bob enjoyed traveling, the Red Sox, the Green Bay Packers and especially being with his family.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Bill Jodice of South Windsor, Conn.; two grandsons whom he adored, Dan Jodice of Concord, N.H., and Kevin Jodice of South Windsor, Conn.; a brother-in-law, Doug Moreshead and his wife Joleen of Cumberland, and a sister-in-law, Glen Baldwin and her husband Bob of Frederick, Md. He also leaves several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family wishes to thank the team at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Dr. Matthew Dugan in Scarborough and the hospice staff at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for their great care and support of Bob throughout his illness. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2009, at Brooklawn Memorial Park, 2002 Congress St., Portland.
