Elizabeth M. Johnsonbaugh, age 94, a lifelong resident of Sturgis, MI passed away Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014 at Thurston Woods Village.
She was born Dec. 3, 1919 in Sturgis, MI a daughter to the late Edward and Mary (Johns) Mamroe.
Elizabeth graduated from Sturgis High School with the class of 1937.
On April 25, 1941 she married Louis E. Johnsonbaugh in Sturgis, MI. He preceded her in death April 19, 1996.
She had been employed at Sturgis Newport and Montgomery Wards in Sturgis and also enjoyed Census taking.
She was a lifelong member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church and enjoyed flower gardening, cooking, reading, doing crosswords, listening to classical music, knitting, was an avid Kobe Bryant and Los Angeles Lakers fan, and especially enjoyed her time spent with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are two sons: Edward (Julie) Johnsonbaugh of Lainsburg, MI and John (Vicki) Johnsonbaugh of Sturgis, MI; 5 grandchildren: Mike Grabe, Linda Kelley, Kris Zimmerman, Brenda Schmucker, and Dale Grabe; and 11 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter: Mary "Cookie" Podemski; and a brother: Harold Mamroe.
Friends and relatives may call from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M., Friday, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1108 E. Lafayette St., Sturgis, MI 49091. A Memorial service celebrating the life of Elizabeth M. Johnsonbaugh will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church, with The Rev. Paul Stern, officiating.
The family suggest memorial donations be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church or Thurston Woods Village, envelopes are available at the church or the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091 who has been entrusted with the arrangements.
