Mrs. Alden Lee, Daughter of Geo. H. Earle, Pneumonia Victim

Many Prominent Philadelphia Folk Stricken With Malady

Mrs. Alden Lee, wife of Ensign Lee, U. S. N., and daughter of Mr. And Mrs. George H. Earle, Jr., died yesterday of pneumonia following influenza. Some time ago Mrs. Lee went to the home of her sister, Mrs. Lawrence Dilworth Beggs, of Haverford, where she gave birth to a daughter last Thursday. Shortly after influenza developed. Ensign Lee arrived home Saturday and his wife of one year died the day after his arrival.

Mrs. Beggs, who was reported Sunday as being critically ill with influenza last night was said to be about the same, but that her pulse was strong. Two days ago Mr. Beggs was taken ill, but his condition is said to be favorable.

Mrs. Gilbert Mather, Mrs. Victor Charles Mather, and Mrs. Joseph M. Patterson, 2d, are sisters and Ensign George H. Earle, 3d, who married Miss Huberta Potter, and Lieutenant Ralph Earle, who married Miss Mary Elizabeth Clayton, are brothers.

Ensign Lee is a son of Mrs. Edward Clinton Lee, of Haverford, and in a brother of Mrs. Sigourney Mellor, Lothrop Lee, Ruckman Lee and Philip Lee.

Brother-in-Law of Mrs. Lee Injured in France.

Coincident with the announcement of the death of Mrs. Lee it became known that Captain Victor C. Mather, her brother-in-law, was injured recently in an accident to his automobile in France.

Captain Mather and Captain R. Penn Smith, Jr., of Strafford, were together in the accident, but Captain Smith escaped injury, according to a cablegram received by his father two days ago. The exact nature of Captain Mather's injuries could not be learned, but friends said they were serious.

[NOTE: Frances Earle Beggs followed her sister to the grave three days later]
