MANSFIELD: SCOTT W. SCHNEIDER, 59, of Mansfield passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family.

The son of William and Evelyn (Hassinger) Schneider, Scott was born September 3, 1956 in Mansfield and was graduated from Mansfield Christian High School in 1975. A few months later he joined the Marine Corps. Scott served from 1975-1979 and for one year was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Scott was honorably discharged on November 9, 1979.

On August 9, 1980, he married Janet M. Keener.

Scott retired from the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. From 1980-2011 he worked at both the Ohio State Reformatory as well as Lorain Correctional Institution.

A descendant of Rev. James Copus (one of the first frontiersman to settle in Richland County) Scott was proud of his family's lineage.

A humble, family-man, Scott's focus was always on his wife, daughter and granddaughter. He attended Clear Fork Alliance Church.

Scott is survived by his wife Janet Schneider of Mansfield; daughter Elizabeth (Ervin) Yoder of Butler; granddaughter Kaitlyn Schneider; parents William and Evelyn Schneider of Mansfield; brother Mike Schneider of Mansfield; sisters Dana DuPaix of Gorman, Texas and Lori (Bob) Bieker of Seattle, Washington; mother-in-law Betty L. Keener of Ashland; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Scott was preceded in death by his father-in-law Clayton H. Keener, sister-in-law Tammy Schneider and brothers-in-law Daryl DuPaix and Fred Mailloux, and niece Beth Ann Keener.

The family will receive friends Friday May 27, 2016 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Clear Fork Alliance Church, 1008 State Route 97, Bellville. The Rev. Dr. Michael V. Stine will officiate. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park where military honors will be performed by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to Remember Nhu (an organization focused on stopping child trafficking) or Richland Pregnancy Services may be made through the funeral home.
