Annie West Smith was born in Yorkshire, England, December 20, 1850. She passed away February 15, 1936, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Hattie Engdahl, at the age of 85 years, 1 month and 27 days.

She was married to George Robinson in 1870 at the age of twenty. Shortly after they were married they came to this country. To this union was born eight children. Her husband and five children preceded her in death. Three children died in infancy, William at the age of twenty-four years, and Mrs. Fannie Dawson at the age of fifty-five years. The children still living are Dave Robinson of Sutton, Mrs. Nellie Sandberg of Lushton and Mrs. Annie Lee of Fairfield.

She was baptized in the Free Will Baptist church of Lakeside in 1886.

In September, 1887, she was married to George W. Smith of Sutton, Neb. To this union was born two children, Mrs. Hattie Engdahl and Charlie Smith, both of Ong. There also survived three step-children, William D. Smith of Nelson, James Bowen Smith of Wessington Springs, S.D., and Mrs. Cora Lloyd of Lushton, twenty grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren, besdes many other relatives and a host of friends.

The family resided on a farm seven miles north of Ong until 1917, when they left the farm and moved to Ong. March 20, 1920, Mrs. Smith passed away.

While in Ong, Mrs. Smith became an active worker in the Ong Methodist church. In 1933, her health failed and she was unable to live alone. She went to live with Mrs. Engdahl, who faithfully cared for her mother.

The funeral was held Tuesday at 1 o'clock at the house and 1:30 at the church with the Rev. L.P. Hansberry in charge. Burial was in the Fairview cemetery northeast of town.
