Obituary

Elizabeth Jean Wright Huegele was born to Lloyd and Regina Wright on January 23, 1927 in San Antonio, Texas. She grew up with two sisters and a brother on her parents' dairy farm near Buena Vista, Texas. Betty attended Buena Vista Elementary and later graduated from Harlandale High School in San Antonio. After high school, she went on to earn her R.N. from Santa Rosa School of Nursing. Her first job as a registered nurse was with Gonzales Warm Springs Hospital, where she worked with children with polio and flew with them to and from their hometowns. She later worked as a nurse at Santa Rosa Hospital and as a scrub nurse for a plastic surgeon. On September 6, 1952, Betty married Emery "Red" Huegele. The couple had two daughters and a son. Over the years, the family lived in San Antonio, Del Rio, and New Braunfels. Betty was a wonderful mother and homemaker. She was a talented seamstress and sewed most of her own and her daughters' clothes. She enjoyed any kind of needlework including embroidery and quilting. Betty also loved to garden, cook, bowl, and oil paint. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Braunfels for many years, where she was active with the Catholic Daughters of America. Betty was a dear lady and will be greatly missed.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Regina Wright, and by her sisters, Marion Stark and Anna Sievers. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Red Huegele; her brother, Johnny Wright; daughter Ann Sprencel and husband Ed; daughter Carolyn Baribeau and husband Thom; son Pete Huegele and wife Tiffany; 6 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the employees and volunteers of Sodalis Assisted Living & Memory Care and Hope Hospice for taking such wonderful care of Betty over the past few years.
