Jackie Mae Parks Coleman was born Aug. 17, 1934, to Callie and Daniel Parks in Gholson, Miss. She was the second child born of this union.
Jackie graduated from Shuqualak High School. Jackie united in holy matrimony to Leon Coleman Jr. in 1953 and relocated to Anderson, Ind. To this union four children were born.
Jackie loved to cook, do gardening and take several vacations in her spare time. Jackie was employed at RCA and as a seamstress for various local cleaners. She was retired from Guide Corp. and was a member of United Auto Workers Local 663. Jackie was a faithful member of Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Missionary Board and Kitchen Committee. Jackie loved serving God, shopping, canning, sewing and spending quality time with her family.
Jackie departed this life at the age of 81 on Thursday, May 19, 2016, to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital with her family by her side.
Jackie was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Leon "Junior" Coleman; daughter, Diane Coleman Johnson; parents, Daniel and Callie Parks; brothers, Fred, Daniel Jr. and Charles Parks; sister, Minnie R. Parks-Ingram; brothers-in-law, Andrew and J.C. "Jack" Coleman; and sisters-in-law, Lizzie Hudson and Hazel Coleman.
Jackie leaves her precious memories to a daughter, Kimberly (Steve) Brown; sons, Andre (Patty Jean) and Jerry Coleman; grandchildren, Andre L. Coleman, Jayisha (Michael) Sweeney and DeAndre (special friend, Kaycee Reason) Coleman; six great-grandchildren, Asia, Andre Jr. Michael Jr., Myles, Jayce and Isaac Leon; sisters, Lucy Pearl (Freeman) Dale, Doris (James) Drummond, and Bettie (Willie) Townsend; brothers, the Rev. Robert (Hilda) and Willie (Reeshard) Parks; sisters-in-law, Odessa McNeese, Eva Parks and Helen Parks; brother-in-law, Charles Hudson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, Bethesda church family and friends.
Services will be at noon Saturday at Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church, 2124 Cedar St., Anderson. The visitation will be two hours prior to services at the church. The Rev. Floyd Edwards Sr. will officiate. Interment will follow in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Arrangements were entrusted to L.C. May Funeral Services.
