She was a very bright student in high school, finishing a year early. She married early in life and had two children, Jimmy “James” and Kathy. She became a single parent while living in Roswell, New Mexico. That is where she met Douglas H. Ward, who was in the U.S. Air Force. They married and began their 20 years of living in different places, typical of the Air Force experience.
After retirement from the Air Force life Vivian and Douglas returned to Elberta, her spouse’s birthplace.
Doug suddenly died in 1975. After becoming a widow she remained in Elberta rather than returning to her roots in Texas.
