Raymond E. "Bub" Poole, 77, of Gaithersburg died June 10 at Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park.

Born in Montgomery County, he was a son of the late Walter S. and Mabel S. Hungerford Poole.

Mr. Poole had attended Richard Montgomery High School before serving in the U.S. Army in World War II. He was a sergeant in Company K, 16th Infantry, and had received the Bronze Star medal.

He was a former member of the Upper Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge No. 123 of Gaithersburg.

He had worked as a painter with GSA at the old Atomic Energy Commission in Germantown where he retired after 27 years of service.

Mr. Poole was an avid Redskin and Atlanta Braves fan.

He is survived by his wife, Nettie "Lou" Poole; three daughters, Sally J. Stanley of Mount Airy, Diana L. Davis of Derwood and Joy D. Bowling of Lakeland, Fla.; six grandchildren, Walter "Stoney" Davis of Germantown, Michelle I. Adcock and George "Staney" Davis, both of Mount Airy, David L. Davis Jr. of Germantown, Ronald E. Bowling Jr. and Cory S. Bowling, both of Lakeland, Fla.; four great-grandchildren, Madison Davis and Megan Davis of Germantown, and Michael Adcock and Matthew Adcock of Mount Airy; three sisters, Mildred Stottlemyer, Gladys Rachel and Blanche Jeffers, all of Dickerson; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held June 12 at Oakdale-Emory United Methodist Church in Olney. Burial was in Monocacy Cemetery in Beallsville.

Muriel H. Barber Funeral Home in Laytonsville handled the arrangements.
