Obituary:
RICHMOND, Ind. – James Russell 'Jim' Hardman, age 86, of Richmond, passed away peacefully, on Sunday, May 22, 2016, at Friends Fellowship Community. Born February 7, 1930, in Bedford, Indiana, to Russel and Emily Kursner Hardman, Jim lived most of his life in this community. He was a 1948 graduate of Richmond High School and attended DePauw University.
— Jim was a former employee of Belden and retired after 33 years as an agent with State Farm Insurance.
— Throughout his life, Jim was active as a community volunteer. Richmond Civic Theater, RHS Music Boosters, Richmond Symphony Orchestra, Y's Men's Club, and RHS Class of 1948 were a few that benefitted from his involvement.
— Survivors include his daughter, Debbie (Bill) Ninde of Richmond; son, David Hardman of Edmond, Oklahoma; grandsons, Tyler Puterbaugh and Toby (Renee) Puterbaugh, both of Richmond; great-granddaughter, Coryanne Puterbaugh; great-grandsons, Evan, Gage, Alec, and Cullen Puterbaugh, all of Richmond; brothers, John (Sandy) Colvin of Burlington, Wisconsin, Jay (Bunny) Colvin of Benicia, California, Ronald (Martha) Hardman of Williamsburg, Virginia, and P. David Smith of Denver, Colorado; special friend, Joyce Louda of Richmond; brother-in-law, Dale Jessie of Woodstock, Illinois; nieces; nephews; and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Fields Hardman, to whom he was married on November 4, 1950; parents; step-parents; and sister, Julia Colvin Jessie.
— The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers of Friends Fellowship Community for their kindness and support. Visitation for Jim will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 27, 2016, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2016, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Dr. Bob Hall officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery.
