James Jacob Rhoades
James Jacob Rhoades, the son of Jacob and Matilda Rhoades, was born at Stuart, Iowa, on March; 28, 1876 and departed this life at his home two miles east of Rippey, Iowa on Saturday morning, November 15, 1941, at four a.m. at the age of 65 years, 7 months and 16 days.

On November 29, 1896 he was united in marriage at Jamaica, Iowa to Lena Greenley [Greenlee]. To this union were born nine children, one dying at 2 and one-half years. Those surviving are Mrs. Hazel McElheney, of Madrid, Iowa. Mrs. Blanche Parr, Jefferson, Iowa, Mahlon, Scranton, Iowa, Lloyd of Dawson, Iowa, Harry, Des Moines, Mrs. Ruby Lee, Dawson, Mrs. Freda Ethel, Perry, and Floyd, at home.

Mr. Rhoades spent his lifetime; in Iowa, and for the major part of this time resided in Dallas and Green counties. Farming was his occupation, an d his industry and friendly neighborliness were familiar to his many friends in this community, where he has lived for about three years. He was an unusually good natured citizen, and had the faculty for sociability, and a genial, smiling countenance that will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

There remains to mourn his passing, besides the children mentioned above, his stricken widow, Mrs. Lena Rhoades, two sisters, Mrs. Ida Carron, Rippey, and Mrs. Margret Stevens of Jefferson, Iowa, also fourteen grandchildren one great grandchild, a number of nephews and nieces, besides a host of other relatives and friends,

Funeral services were conducted at the First Methodist Church, Rippey, Iowa, on Monday afternoon, November 17, 1941; at two thirty, by the Rev. Louis H. Joslin. Interment was made in Violet Hill Cemetery, Perry, Iowa.
