Wilbert C. Secrest, son of David Newton and Mary Jane Secrest, was born September 25, 1876 on a farm in Guernsey County, Ohio, and died October 26, 1952 at the Reece hospital at Gardner. His age was 76 yars, 1 month, and 1 day. When he was six months old, the family moved to Kansas and made their home on a farm north west of Edgerton. He attended school at Splinterville school, old district 57, and became a member of the Presbyterian church when he was 16 years old. On October 30, 1901, he was married to Alice Elizabeth Whitla who preceeded him in death on December 8, 1946. They moved to their farm home north west of Edgerton shortly after their marriage and lived on the farm until 1941 when they moved to Edgerton where he has made his home since that time.

Surviving are four children, two daughters, Eula of the home, and Bernice, who is now Mrs. Alva Moore of Gardner, and two sons, Ancil of Pleasanton, and Chester of Paola. Also, surviving are one sister, Miss Jessie Scott Secrest of Edgerton, and one brother, Clyde Secrest, also of Edgerton. Seven grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Mr. Secrest was a good man, a dutiful son, a loyal brother, a loving husband, a kind father, and a good neighbor. His loss will be keenly felt by his family, his neighbors, and his friends, and he will be lovingly remembered by all those privileged to know him.

Funeral services were held at the Edgerton Presbyterian church, Wednesday, October 29, at 2:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. Douglas Ostlund
