Samuel O. Berry Sr., 78, of Plainville, Conn., died Monday, Dec. 15, 2014, at Hartford Hospital. Samuel was born in Gloucester, Va. and was the son of the late James Wesley Berry and Bertha (Williams) Berry. He worked as a polisher at Corbin & Russwin for several years. Samuel served his country honorably in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Spottswood A.M.E. Zion Church, New Britain, the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers and owned and operated the Berry Light Trucking for 35 years.

Samuel is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Gladys Berry of Plainville; two sons, Samuel O. Berry Jr. of Del Rio, Texas, and Anthony Berry of Bristol, Conn.; his daughter, Kesia Berry and her husband, John Carr, of New Britain, Conn.; his two sisters, Mildred Morris of Gloucester, Va. and Earline Tucker of Queens, N.Y., 12 grandchildren, Kyle, Tairess, Daphne, Marques, Michael, Samuel III, Lorenzo, Christian, Cody, Antwain, William and Maya; seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Samuel was predeceased by eight brothers and three sisters.


Homegoing Celebration for Samuel was held at Spottswood A.M.E. Zion Church, 25 Crestwood Lane, New Britain, with the Rev. John C. Morris Jr., Pastor, presiding.

Burial with full military honors will be in the Veterans Spousal Section of Fairview Cemetery, 120 Smalley St., New Britain.

The American Flag will be presented to Mr. Berry’s wife, Gladys.
