C. B. Smith worked in a bank in his early years and in 1918 enlisted in the army. After his return from World War I he resumed his career at the bank until he was converted at Pentecostal revival services which he attended while visiting his family. He attended the Canadian Pentecostal Bible College in Winnipeg where he met his future wife, Beulah Argue, daughter of Rev. A.H. Argue. They married in 1927 and had four children, Catherine, George, David and Robert. Smith was ordained in 1928 and was pastor in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan from 1928 to 1931, serving as Saskatchewan District Superintendent in 1930. He was a pastor in Ottawa from 1933 to 1940 and was principal of the Eastern Pentecostal Bible College from 1940 to 1944. In 1944 he was elected General Superintendent of the PAOC and served in that position from 1945 until 1952. At that time he accepted a position as pastor of a church in Victoria and was there until 1958 when he returned to Ontario and the presidency of the Eastern Pentecostal Bible College. Pastor Smith died in a tragic car accident on December 30, 1961. Highly esteemed across the nation, Smith left a legacy of Christ-centred and Spirit-filled leadership for his children and the next generation.
