Canyon - Benjamin Lavon "Lefty" Adams, 69, of Canyon died Thursday, March 24, 2005, in
Amarillo.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. David
Lowrie, pastor, and Lyndal Waldrip officiating. Graveside services will be at
3 p.m. Monday in Boys Ranch Cemetery in Boys Ranch. Arrangements are by Brooks
Funeral Directors.

Mr. Adams was born June 30, 1935, in Hardeman County. He attended Paris Junior
College, where he played football. He graduated from West Texas State
University in 1961 and began his career at Boys Ranch in 1962. He served as an
alternate dorm parent, head football coach, teacher and track and cross
country coach for a span of 34 years. He led the Fellowship of Christian
Athletes and served as assistant athletic director.

He married JoLean Everett, his wife of 41 years, at Boys Ranch on June 6,
1964. His passion for his Lord and Savior was evidenced in his love for the
young people whose lives he touched, his love for his family and friends and
the example he lived every day. Upon retirement, he and his wife moved to
Canyon, where he was a member of First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, James W. Johnson in 2004, and two
brothers, Larry Ashlock in 1986 and Jackie Ashlock in 2003.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Benji Adams and wife, Mary Alice, of
Childress and Greg Adams of Allen; a daughter, Amy Brasher and husband, Derek,
of Amarillo; his mother, Lillian Johnson of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Brenda
Flemming and Wanda Kiger, both of Oklahoma City; a brother, Derrell Ashlock of
Red Oak; eight grandchildren; and countless friends.

The family suggests memorials be to Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice, P.O. Box
950, Amarillo, TX 79176, Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, TX
