EDWARDSBURG, MI. — Robert G. “Bob” Chew, 73, of Edwardsburg, passed away Monday morning, May 23, 2016 at his residence.

Bob was born Oct. 22, 1942, in South Bend, IN., to the late Charles L. and Wilma E. (Johnson) Chew Sr.

In addition to his parents, his sister Marcine Chew, grandson Quinn Costello {FAG #117838596}, and nephew Edward Chew {FAG #65476407} preceded him in death.

Bob married the former Beth Lauer on May 1, 1965, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elkhart, IN.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Beth Chew; three daughters, April Chew of Edwardsburg, Amy (Kevin) Costello of Lakewood, IL., and Emily (Gopi) Gopikrishna of South Bend; three grandchildren Emma, Kathleen, and Matthew Costello; brothers Charles L. “Chuck” (Judy) Chew Jr. of Elkhart, John E. Chew of Niles and M. Jim Chew of Three Rivers; and a sister, Barbara J. (Garold) Dull of Elkhart.

Bob graduated from Edwardsburg High School in 1961. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Constellation from 1961 until his honorable discharge in 1964. Bob worked as a project manager for Norco Industries for 12 years before retiring in 2012. Previously, he worked for Querry Tool & Die for more than 30 years. He served on the Mason Township Zoning Board and was an active member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) for many years. Bob was an avid golfer and a member of Four Lakes Country Club in Adamsville. One of his first jobs in high school was at Four Lakes, where he helped build the 17th green in 1958. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and former member of St. Thomas the Apostle in Elkhart. In addition to golf, Bob enjoyed spending time with family and friends camping, hiking, attending concerts in the park, and other outdoor activities.

Friends and family gather from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. with one hour visitation prior Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 24832 U.S. 12 East, Edwardsburg. The Rev. Joseph McCormick officiated. Burial followed in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens with military honors by the U.S. Navy Funeral Honor Guard.

The family kindly request memorials to Our Lady of the Lake Parish or the Edwardsburg Food Pantry; donations for both organizations can be mailed to the church.
