A graveside service for Brenda L. Andersen, formerly of Whatcom County, will be at 1 pm Wednesday at Ten Mile Cemetery.

Mrs. Andersen died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at Chinook Convalescent Center in Yakima. She was 57.

Born Dec 15, 1941, to T. J. and Amy Baldwin in Bellingham, she graduated from Meridian High School in 1959.

In 1964, she graduated from what is now Western Washington University with degrees in sociology and education. She completed her fifth year in Early Childhood Education at Eastern Washington University in Cheney.

She married Richard Andersen June 176, 1961, in Laurel Baptist Church.

Mrs. Andersen taught elementary school in Anacortes, Auburn, Outlook, Lacrosse and Klamath Falls, Ore before becoming a full-time parent.

In addition to their three birth children, she and her husband adopted three children and foster parented 76 babies, most of them drug-affected or in fragile health. She also trained others to work with children and was president of the Yakima Foster Parent Association for two years.

In 1998, she was honored by the Yakima Foster Parent Association and the Department of Social and Health Services with a luncheon and a paver stone in her name at Children's Village.

A brother, Herb Baldwin, died in 1981 and her father died in 1988.

Survivors include her husband of Harrah; daughters Erin of Portland, Ore, Ann Marie and Wendy, both of the family home; sons Nate of Hartline, John of Yakima and B.J. of the family home; brother Jim Baldwin of Yakima; sisters Janna Jansen and Barbara Baldwin, both of Bellingham; her mother of Bellingham; one grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
