Joe was raised on a homestead in Springer, New Mexico and was always proud of his country heritage. During World War II, he served with the fighting Sea Bees of the Navy in the Pacific theater. After the war, he made a career in the road construction and trucking businesses and then settled down to be what he wanted to be, a simple farmer. His happiest moments were spent irrigating in the serenity of his pasture or hay field.
He was preceded in death by his wife Louella and is survived by his son Joseph of the family farm.
The VFW will conduct a ceremonial salute at the Aztec VFW Hall at 11:30 AM on Saturday, January 20, to be followed by a pot-luck lunch for family and friends.
