Martha Lane Clark is the daughter of James and Mary/Polly (Hilton) Clark of Sanbornton, N.H.

Martha Lane Clark and Barnet Hughes were married September 12, 1837.

Martha Lane Clark was born April 29, 1816 in that part of Sanbornton that is now Franklin. On September 12, 1837 she married Barnet Hughes. Barnet was born August 01, 1813 in Windham, N.H. Barnet and Martha had four sons and three daughters. Martha died July 14, 1862 and Barnet died in Ashland April 22, 1886. >Various sources.

Here is an interesting bit of information that is folded in the pages of the Hughes family Bible.
Franklin April 29, 1834
"This certifies that Martha Lane Clark of this town according to the best of our knowledge sustains a good moral character." Signed: James Clark, Sam'l Quimby, Henry Burley, Selectmen of Franklin.

Note: As of June 2001, the family bibles are in the possession of my cousin, John Cutting Hughes. They were given to me by aunt Romenia and I kept them for about twenty-five years before passing them on to John. >B.L.H.
