His Regiment engaged in the battle at Olustee, Fla., where loss to the Eighth was very severe; 49 men killed, 180 men wounded, 63 missing, probably wounded and left on the field.
The 8th U. S. Colored Regiment also played a large role at the Siege of Petersburg, Va.
