He was a graduate of South Catholic High School and Central Connecticut State University. At the time of his death he was a resident of Middletown, Conn. Officer Arace joined the Hartford Police Department in August 1996. Since 2003 he had been a community service officer in Hartford's Barry Square region. Officer Arace was a certified Field Training Officer for newly-graduated probationary police officers. During his career he received an official commendation from the U.S. Marshals Service of the U.S. Department of Justice, the Hartford Police Department's Distinguished Service Medal, and numerous letters of commendations for his work above and beyond the call of duty. He was posthumously promoted by Hartford Police Chief Daryl K. Roberts to the rank of Sergeant a day after his death. Officer Arace was to have officially received the promotion in November 2006.
