Maria was the first wife of Johannes Van Etten. They married on May 18, 1750 at the Dutch Reformed Church in Wawarsing, Ulster, New York. Maria died sometime shortly after 1776. Sources disagree as to the location of her death and burial. Most likely it was in Orange County, NY, where she and Johannes lived at the time of Simon and Catharina's births, though she could also be buried in Kingston with her birth family. It's less likely she died in Pike County, where Johannes and his second wife are buried, though not impossible. Pike County, PA, Orange & Ulster Counties, NY, and Sussex County (was NY, now NJ) are all close to each other, with shared borders. (Northampton county, PA, where Johannes enlisted at, is also in this general region.) County boundaries were still fairly fluid at this time.

The children of Johannes and Maria were:

Magdalena van Etten (1751- )
Emanuel van Etten (1754-1824)
Rymerick van Etten (1756-1816)
Johannes Paline van Etten (1759-)
James Jacobus van Etten (1761 - 1805)
Elisabeth van Etten (1763-1813)
Anthony James van Etten (1764- )
Maria van Etten (1766- )
Catharina van Etten (1772-1807)
Simon van Etten (November 1776- )
