Spc. Nicholas Rogers of Deltona, Fla., graduated from Deltona High School in 1997 where he was a classmate with a gift for making others laugh. He is the son of the city's deputy fire chief, Robert Rogers. His wife, Kelly, was six months pregnant with their second daughter. Before joining the military, Nicholas earned certification as an emergency medical technician. Helping others came naturally to him, because it was the family business. He was a member of the Deltona High Blue Brigade Band, active in the Boy Scouts Troop 565, and a graduate of DBCC EMT Program. Nick served as a combat medic with the U.S. Army 10th Mountain Division in New York, when he was deployed to Iraq on the 15th of August 2006. He is survived by his wife of five years, Kelly Williamson Rogers, who has been his best friend for over 12 years; his daughters, Jocelyn and Isabelle; parents, Robert and Penny Rogers, sister, Crystal Lynn Rogers, maternal grandmother, Dorothy Meurer, and maternal grandfather, James Meurer. Nick was an active and compassionate man who always felt a strong desire to help others around him, friend or foe. He often wrote home to share his experiences overseas and to remain updated on the progress of his second daughter's arrival in January, which he looked forward to seeing soon during his leave. He was 27.
