Ozella Bowling Davis, 84, of 206 Second St., passed on to her heavenly home on Monday, May 31, 2004, in Wallace Thomson Hospital. Mrs. Davis was the devoted wife of the late Jesse Ben Davis to whom she was married for 64 years and was a beloved mother.
She was born in Jonesville on Sept. 15, 1919, a daughter of the late Thomas Dean Bowling and Annie Horn Bowling. Mrs. Davis was a charter member of Morningside Baptist Church, a former teacher in the Children's Department of Sunday School for 33 years and was a leader of the Sunbeams and Mission Friends and was a member of the Ladies Number 3 Sunday School Class and the Golden Agers.
Mrs. Davis was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Serving are a daughter and her husband, Brenda and Grady Lanier Jr. of Jonesville; three sons and their wives, Harold Dean and Faye Harris Davis, Bruce Franklin and Bonnie Austin Davis and Bobby Joe and Donna Parks Davis, all of Union; 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Davis was predeceased by a daughter and a son, Sandra D. O'Shields and Derrell Oneal Davis.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Morningside Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Eddie Saxon and the Rev. Angelia Price. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Chris Austin, James Mosley, Colon Duckett, C.L. Babb, David Erwin and Claude Bobo.
Deacons and ladies of the church are asked to sit in a group.
The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 and will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Wednesday to await the hour of service.
The family will be at the home of her daughter, Brenda Lanier, 632 Bob Little Road, Jonesville. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.
