When James W "J W" Bedwell, Jr, was born on October 12, 1812, in Al, his father, James W Bedwell, Sr, was 32 and his mother, Lucy Grimes, was 24. In about 1837, He married his 1st wife, Mary Nicholson, who was my gr gr gr grandmother. They had: James Donald, Alexander Dawson, Jonathan Grimes, Arabella Nicholson "Belle", who was my gr gr grandmother, Olivia Bedwell and Mary "Molly" Bedwell. After the death of Mary Nicholson Bedwell on October 6, 1858 , he was married 2nd to Winnie Bell Mahoney on December 8, 1859, in Hinds County, Mississippi. They had: Mahala E. , Sarah J., Joseph, Ida May, Emma Ann, Lula, and Annie. According to Ray Bedwell, the Masonic symbol on his tombstone indicates he was a Master Mason. Further research by Ray turned up J. W. Bedwell as a member of Raymond Masonic Lodge #21. He was the Treasurer of the lodge in 1874. He was a Confederate in Mississippi Regiment, 1st Battalion, Mississippi Infantry; State Troops for 30 days in 1864; Company F, Rank In -Private; Rank Out- Private; Film NumberM232 roll 3. He died on February 17, 1896, in Dry Grove, Hinds, Mississippi, having lived a long life of 83 years. He was buried there in the Bedwell Futch Cemetery in Dry Grove, Hinds, Mississippi. He was my 3rd great granddad.
