S.J. King, a life-long resident of Lincoln County and former mayor of the City of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday (May 20, 2016). He was 89.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney Johnston and Neice' Blaylock King, grandson Jonathan King, four brothers and five sisters. He was the youngest of 10 children and the last surviving member of the family.
Mr. King was born in the Lincoln community. He served as a Fayetteville city alderman from 1966-1968. He was a former chairman of the ABC Commission in Nashville. Mr. King was elected mayor of the City of Fayetteville, serving in that seat from 1970-1976. He also served on the power board here from 1966-1969 under the CEO, Floyd Nelson.
