Earl Durham, 89, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 20, 2016 at Bristol Regional Medical Center.

He was a lifelong resident of the Crackers Neck community. Earl was a truck driver for Adams Construction, a tree surgeon, and worked as a coal miner. He was a U. S. Navy Veteran of WWII, where he was given the Purple Heart, and a U. S. Army Veteran of the Korean War.

Earl was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Angie (Stidham) Durham; two sons, David Michael Durham and Dennis Durham; a granddaughter, Crystal Delano; four brothers, Ralph, James, Paul and Kenneth Durham; and one sister, Betty Shoop.

Surviving are his children, Kenneth Durham and wife, Sheila of Big Stone Gap, Frank Durham and wife, Barbara of Goshen, OH, Mona Ervin and husband, Bill of Hartville, OH, Roy Allen Durham and wife, Regina, of Big Stone Gap, Va and Regina Couch of Big Stone Gap, VA; grandchildren Deena Rohloff, Hubert and Brad Durham, Chuck Durham and Jeff Jones, Amanda Shuler and Derrick Neal and great grandchildren Christian Bishop, Kaylee Rohloff, Skylar Neal and Hunter Durham; one brother, Elmer “Buddy” Durham of Thompson, GA; one sister, Anna Ruth Sarber of Gray, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Holding Funeral Home (17 E. 3rd St., N.) in Big Stone Gap.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Hagan Webb officiating.

Military rites, by the Virginia National Guard Honors Team and local V.F.W. & D.A.V. posts, will follow at Riverview Cemetery in East Stone Gap, VA.

Grandsons and friends will serve as pallbearers.
