Mrs. Evelyn Christine Kellar Burgess, beloved mother and treasured grandmother, age 83, of Eastanollee, GA went home to be with her Lord after a period of illness on October 29, 2016, surrounded at her home with her family she loved.Born in Franklin County, GA, Mrs. Burgess was the second daughter of the late Robert Dan and Annie Mae Keller Kellar, and wife of the late Rev. Lester Burgess, with whom she enjoyed 61 wonderful years of marriage. For 42 years they served the Lord together as Pastor and wife at Collins Road Baptist Church in Toccoa.A homemaker her whole adult life, she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved flowers, gardening and sewing, including piecing quilt tops and quilting. She was a long time member of Collins Road Baptist Church, where she served as Sunday School teacher for many age groups over the years, as well as serving as church clerk. She not only enjoyed teaching Sunday School, but she also loved doing extension ministry her entire adult life. She was a member of the senior class of Eastanollee High School Class of 1950, whom she enjoyed many hours of fun and fellowship in recent years.Mrs. Burgess was blessed with and is survived by three children: Debbie Shelton of Easley, SC, Rev. Phillip Burgess and wife Jimmie Burgess of Toccoa, and DeJuan Martin and husband Rev. Ken Martin of Clermont, GA; eight grandchildren, Becky and Carl Reddish of Clarkesville, GA, James and Layne Shelton of Fayetteville, AR, Joy and Pick Speed of Easley, SC, Jack Shelton of Carnesville, GA, Alicia Arnold of Toccoa, John and Tonya Burgess of Eastanollee, Bryan Martin of Greer, SC, Bradley and Jennifer Martin of Cleveland, GA; and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Sue Mitchell of Chesterfield, MO and Joyce Kellar of Forsyth, GA; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Chris (John) Burgess of Longview, TX, Mrs. Jeannette (Jack) Burgess of Toccoa, and Mrs. Betty (Rev. C. Roy) Smith of Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, James Roger Shelton and a sister, Wilma Moore.Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Monday, October 31, 2016 from the Chapel of Whitlock Mortuary with the Rev. Phillip Burgess and Bryan Martin officiating.Burial will follow at Stephens Memorial Gardens with Dr. Jack Segars officiating.Pallbearers will be grandsons, John Burgess, Bryan Martin, Bradley Martin, great-grandson, Andrew Reddish, and friends, Brian Long and Kenny Manheim. Honorary Pallbearers, will be long-time friend Alfred Poole and grandson Jack Shelton.
