Michael Eugene Nunnally, 67, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2016, after a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Petersburg, Va., Mike was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving as an Airman from 1968-1972, and being stationed in both Corpus Christi, Texas, and Keflavik, Iceland. After completing his Naval service, he was employed at Brown & Williamson Tobacco Co. and then at J.D. Witt and Sons for the last 40 years. Mike loved to watch sports and became a big fan of the JMU Dukes football team when his daughter attended there. He especially loved his large collection of books as reading was his favorite pastime. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harper V. and Ruby T. Nunnally.
He leaves behind his wife of 38 years, Vicki (Eley) Nunnally; daughter, Erin E. Nunnally; siblings, Patrick Nunnally, Mary Branzelle, Rose Hall and Sally Eanes; many nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Jerry Eley and wife, Kim; and two special pets. The family would like to thank everyone who has been so supportive during this time and a special thanks goes to the wonderful nurses and staff on 4 West at Southside Regional Medical Center.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2016, at Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, Va., with Mr. Ronnie Dunford officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 22, 2016, from 2-4 p.m. at the Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, VA 23805. Flowers are appreciated as are donations to your favorite charity in Mike's honor. Mike's unique sense of humor and personality will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
