In 1852 after spending five years’ service with the shoe firm of Brooks & Co. learning the trade of shoe cutter, Edwin B. Stimpson, a native of Northhampton England, opened his own company. First engaged as a master cutter and later as a wholesale manufacturer, his machinery patents were used in the manufacture of shoes and boots and were used by manufacturers throughout the country. He died on October 1888 at the age of sixty three.
