SELF, Ernie A – Age 59, of Myrtle Creek, died on Sunday, July 13, 1997 at his residence. He was born on February 27, 1938 in Anderson County, South Carolina. He was married to the former Lena Mae Weakley on April 11, 1976 in Reno, Nevada. Ernie enjoyed his work as an electrical inspector for the State of Oregon, his garden, hunting, fishing and being a handyman. Most important to him was his family and putting them always before himself. Sunday mornings were always special for he watched the NASCAR races with his stepson Stephen. We all loved him and he will be missed deeply. Emile touched many people and will not be forgotten by his family and many friends. Survivors include; his wife, Lena Self of Myrtle Creek, Oregon; son, Vaughn Self of Corbet, Georgia; daughter, Tina Riggins and her husband Brian of Sedro Wooley, Washington; stepson, Stephen Briggs and his wife Jennifer of Myrtle Creek, Oregon; mother, Martha Self of Georgia; three brothers, Jerry Self, Donny Self, and Lewis Self all of Georgia; four sisters, Betty Carol, Rosalee, Janette and Helen all of Georgia; grandchildren, Michael Briggs, Jason Briggs, Ryan Briggs, Noel Briggs-Kakas, Brynn Riggins and Gramen Riggins; one great-grandchild, Britni Briggs and several nieces and nephews. Visitation hours for family and friends will be held on Thursday, July 17 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME in Myrtle Creek. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
