Rev. Thomas W. Caskey was the pastor of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) at the start of The Civil War (1855-1861). He left the pulpit to join the young men of his congregation fighting in the war. He was called "The Fighting Parson". His strategy for fighting the war was to shoot the enemy in the leg. His thinking was that this would take 3 men out of the battle instead of one (the injured man and two to carry the injured man). He survived the war and went on to lead other churches.
