Chester Pierce, 87, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. He was a resident of Franklin and a former longtime resident of Union Township.

He was born July 2, 1915, in Union Township. His parents were C.M. and Effie May (Deer) Pierce. He married Viola May Ellett on Oct. 9, 1940, in Waverly. She survives. Other survivors include several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by six sisters, Marcia Williams, Esther Selch, Oma Sherman, Gladys Clem, Hattie Doty and Sara Weingard; four brothers, Clarence, Henry, Kenneth and his twin Lester Pierce.

He attended Union Township schools. He farmed for more than 50 years in Union Township. He was U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European theater. He was a 50-year member of First Baptist Church in Franklin and a member of Union Village Masonic Lodge 545 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Franklin American Legion Post 205 and Farm Bureau Co-op. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching championship wrestling.

Services were entrusted to Vandivier Tudor Funeral Home of Franklin, Indiana with full military honors conducted by Franklin American Legion Post 205 of Franklin, Indiana.
