Obituary
Robert Thomas Herbranson was born November 8, 1916 at home on the family farm in Nidaros Township. His parents were Olaves and Thea (Johnson) Herbranson. He was baptized and confirmed at Nidaros Lutheran Church in the Norwegian language, which he continued to speak fluently. Robert attended rural school at District #33, and after graduating from the Battle Lake High School continued to work on the family farm.

On September 29, 1946 Robert was united in marriage to Mabel Gunderson. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Ruth Ann, Lois, Kenneth and Arlan. Robert and Mabel made their home at the Herbranson family farm. Mabel passed away on January 6, 1983. On August 17, 1991, Robert was united in marriage to Deloris (Olson) Anderson. They made their home in rural Vining and Robert continued to farm. Robert never really retired from farming; at age 99 he still supervised his crops and calculated his yield and expenses to the penny. He loved watching the growing season.

Robert and Deloris enjoyed traveling together, experiencing many adventures in Norway, Hawaii, Alaska and other places in the US, especially Palm Springs.

Robert had a deep life-long love of music, singing many solos for local community and church events and numerous funerals. He was a member of the Fergus Falls Barber Shop Chorus and the Fergus Falls Community College Chamber Choir. A highlight in his singing career was performing with this choir at Carnegie Hall in New York City. He played a little piano and at age 92 took violin lessons.
Robert loved swimming, water skiing and spending time at the lake cabin. In winter he skied the country hills around the farm and the mountains of Colorado. He was a leader in his community, serving on the Township Board, School Board and Cemetery Board. He truly enjoyed working with his neighbors.

Robert passed away peacefully on January 11, 2016 at his home in Vining at 99 years of age under the tender care of Lakeland Hospice. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Preceding Robert in death were his parents, Olaves and Thea; first wife, Mabel; three brothers: Gordon, Elmer, and Carl; and sister, Alice.

Robert is survived by his wife, Deloris Herbranson of Vining; children: Ruth Ann (Gary) Christianson of Milaca; Lois (James) Bodurtha of Eagan; Kenneth (Joyce) Herbranson of Clitherall; Arlan (Bonnie) Herbranson of Clitherall; 13 grandchildren: Ryan, Bria, Katie, Becky, Peter, Kent, Anna, Carrie, Molly, Lynn, Amy, Erin, and Abby; 12 great-grandchildren; three step-children: Michael Anderson, Tony Anderson, and Kathryn Avinger; sister Thelma (Edmund) Andrewjeski of Washington State; other relatives and a host of friends.
