James Coleman is the son of Michael "Malcolm" Coleman and Margaretta Rösch.
[The Americanize spelling became Roush when the umlaut ö becomes "ou"]

It is reported that James died in Belleville, Ontario, Canada. Belleville is a city located at the mouth of the Moira River on the Bay of Quinte in Southern (Central) Ontario, Canada.

Michael Coleman was born about 1735 probably in Carlisle, Pennsylvania although it is possible that he was born in Scotland. He died in February 1793. He married Margaret unknown last name and dates of birth and marriage, seven children:
1. John, Sr. born ca. 1760 date of death unknown, married Margaret Roush (in the Wood County census 1850).
--a. John, Jr. born ca. 1786, date of death unknown, married Phebe Decoy, born 1788, date of death unknown.
--b. Margaret born ca. 1790, married William Harris March 28, 1811.
--c. Michael born 1794, married Angela Turner August 18, 1815, Wood Co.
--d. Jensy born 1796, married Tom Boso October 2, 1814.
2. Margaret born ca. 1763, married Peter Anderson.
3. Thomas born ca. 1777, date of death unknown, married Jane Raredon born 1783, died 1877 on August 18, 1800 in Washington County, Ohio,
--a. Margaret born July 30, 1801, died March 12, 1834, married Adam Alkire February 1, 1825.
4. Samuel born ca. 1779, married Susan last name and date unknown.
5. James born ca. 1780, died 1803, married Nancy Anderson, birthdate unknown, died 1804.

James married Nancy Anderson, the daughter of Peter Anderson and Sarah Margaret Coleman. They are known to have 2 children:
-Mary "Polly" Coleman White (1796-1853)
-Thomas B. Coleman (1801-1890)

James Coleman was the founder of the Jackson County family. He married Nancy Anderson sister of Peter Anderson during the time that Belleville was in Kanawha County.

He died in 1803, leaving two small children; Thomas born at Letart Falls, Ohio on June 2, 1801 and was two years old when his father died. The mother died the next year in 1804, after which he was taken by his mothers brother, presumably Peter Anderson. (Submitted by David Allen Brewer)

Thomas [Coleman] born at Letart Falls, Ohio on June 2, 1801 and was two years old when his father died. The mother died the next year in 1804, after which he was taken by his mothers brother, presumably Peter Anderson....A sister, Mary, was the first wife of Isaac Adams * the Jackson County politician. * NOTE: This appears to be in error since Thomas B. Coleman's sister, Mary "Polly" Coleman (1796-1853), married James White in 1813. Mary Coleman (1831-1876), the daughter of "Polly's brother, Thomas B. Coleman, married Isaac Maxwell Adams.
