Peggy Jane Thurman Hemphill, 54, of Athens, went home to her Lord and His son, Jesus, on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at her home.
A native of the Idlewild community and a lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was a daughter of the late William Thurman and was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Shannon Thurman.
She was an active member of Sanford Baptist Church, where she helped teach the youth. She had a beautiful voice that moved the Heaven when she sang! She loved the outdoors; she loved golfing and fishing and just being outside.
Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Kenneth "Kenny" Hemphill of Athens; one daughter and son-in-law, Courtney and Andy Allen of Athens; two grandchildren she adored, Caid and Carleigh Wilkins; her mother, Reba Delois Clark Thurman of Decatur; a brother, Carl Thurman of Niota; one sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Joe Haney of Decatur; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Coleman and the Rev. Jimmy Lewis officiating.
Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Rogers Creek Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Rex Hemphill, Jerry Hemphill, Chris Clark, Donnie Brogden, Dewayne Ensley, Bronnie Allen, Jackie Plaster, and Don Wyatt.
