David W. Burney, 64, Odessa, Missouri, was born December 11, 1951, to Charles N. and Betty Roark Burney. His life was ended May 5, 2016, in Odessa.

He attended schools in Missouri and Arizona, earning a bachelor’s degree in earth sciences in Missouri and a master’s at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, Socorro, NM.

He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Rogers in the South Pacific.

He lived in Sierra Vista a number of years and did construction work, including several structures at Parker Canyon Lake. He worked as a finance officer at auto dealerships. He also taught several years at Cochise College. He was a member of the Baptist Church. He was a geologist, traveling extensively in Central and South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. He was a frequent guest speaker at conferences and was a member of several geological organizations. He was a member of the VFW.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1971.

Survivors include his wife, Susan; daughter, Heather Burney; grandchildren, Brandon and Andrea Brown; and a great-grandson, Tommie Lee, all of Odessa. Survivors also include his mother, Betty Higgins; and brother, Roger Burney, both of Sierra Vista; sisters, Linda Bowlin of Odessa and Joyce Burney, Tucson, AZ.; aunts, Marye Wagoner, Las Cruces, NM, and Doris Roark, Phoenix; uncle, Rick Roark, St. Louis, Mo.; and numerous cousins.
