AGED COUPLE RUN DOWN AND KILLED BY WABASH TRAIN

Edgerton Ohio: July 12, 1913
John Durr aged sixty-nine a farmer of near Edon, a village just across the Indiana line and his wife aged sixty-five were instantly killed at 11:45 o’clock this noon, when a farm wagon in which they were riding from their home to Edgerton was struck by Wabash passenger train No. 1 west-bound, at a crossing two miles east of Artic. The attention of the aged couple had been attracted by a fire in a hay field along the side the railroad that had been started a short time before by a passing freight train, and the drove onto the tracks directly in front of the train. The wagon which was loaded with wheat was struck squarely in the center and was demolished and the bodies of the occupants were thrown a distance of 150 feet and horribly mangled. The train was stopped and the bodies of the unfortunate couple were placed aboard and taken to Edgerton, where they were placed in the Krill undertaking establishment. Mr. Durr was one of the best known and most prosperous farmers of this county. Surviving children are Mrs. Roy Jennings of Dekalb, In. and John W Durr of Detroit, Mi. Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon from the German Lutheran Church in Edon, Ohio and interment will be made in the cemetery there.
