Decherd Woman Dies From Crash --

Mrs. Mona Garner, 47, wife of J. C. Garner, Route 2, Decherd, died of injuries received in a collision Wednesday night on State Highway 50 about a mile and a half east of Decherd.

She was a sister of Franklin County Judge Roy T. Crownover.

Mrs. Garner, who was employed by The Tennessee Co., insurance adjusters of Tullahoma, was first taken to Franklin County Hospital, but died en route to a Nashville hospital, where she was being transferred for treatment.

State Trooper Ray Clepper, who investigated the Wednesday morning mishap, said Mrs. Garner was driving alone in a 1972 Ford auto when it was involved in a collision with a 1972 Ford driven by William J. Johnson, 24, also of Route 2, Decherd, who was also alone. The accident happened on a curve, the trooper said.

Mr. Johnson, a driver for the Franklin County Ambulance Service, was carried to Franklin County Hospital and transferred to Harton Hospital, Tullahoma, where he underwent surgery later in the day. A Harton Hospital spokesman said he was being treated for a fractured left hip and right knee and nose lacerations.

His condition was described as satisfactory.

Services for Mrs. Garner will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Watson Funeral Home Winchester. Burial will be in Mt. Garner Cemetery, Decherd. The Rev. Henry Lee Myers of Sewanee will officiate.

Born April 22, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Alma Temple Crownover and Lem Crownover. She was a Franklin County native and an Episcopalian.

In addition to her husband and brother, survivors are a sister, Mrs. Carson Rose of the Alto community and one other brother, Hugh W. Crownover, of Chattanooga.
