He was 73 years old, born August 15, 1861, on the old Braun homestead, south of St. Cloud, now operated by Alphonse J. Braun as Braun's Dairy. That farm of 120 acres was the claim taken by Xavier Braun in 1853 when he came to Stearns county from Missouri with his then small family. Xavier Braun was born in Alsace-Lorraine in 1813. He grew to manhood in his native land, served his required time in the German army, and in 1846 he came to America. He was married and had two children at the time of the emigration. The family lived In Missouri seven years and then came to Stearns county. The early missionaries, especially Father Pierz, sought to bring settlers of the German nationality and of the Catholic faith to this new country.
