When the news that Nesbit Harper had died suddenly at his home at Lithia Springs, at noon Saturday, reached Douglasville it was a distinct shoc to everyone, for Mr. Harper was in town earlier in the day apparently in his usual health.
About eleven o'clock Mr. Harper went to do some work in his garden, near the house and it is believed that he was overcome be the excessive heat, which caused his death.
Mr. Harper was in his 5th. (sic) year of age and was one of Douglas counties most prominent citizens, as well as one of the counties largest farmers. He was born in Jonesboro and for many years was with Harper Brothers, horse and mule dealers, in Atlanta He moved to Douglas county about 22 years ago and was a religious and civic leader of the county. At the time of his death he was a steward and trustee of the Lithia Springs Methodist church and a member of the county board of commissioners. At one time he was a director of the State Experiment Station at Experiment, Ga.
Not only will his immediate community, but all the county will miss this good and useful citizen, and his family have the sympathy of all who knew him, in the loss of a devoted husband and loving father.
Funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Lithia Springs Methodist church, conducted by Rev. Frank Crawley, pastor and Rev. Wills M. Jones, presiding elder, interment was in the Douglasville cemetery. J. Cowan Whitley undertaker in charge.
Mr. Harper is survived by his wife; one son William Harper; two daughters, Misses Kathryn and Geraldine Harper; four sisters Mesdames O. J. Heely, of Jonesboro; Oza Hamrick of Albertville, Ala.; G.
