Longtime Teacher, Miss Acuff, Dies
Miss Lutie G. Acuff, 81, who taught at Tennessee School for the Deaf for 52 years before her retirement in 1961, died yesterday at Asbury Acres, Maryville.
She graduated from TSD in 1909 and that same year became a substitute teacher there. She became a regular faculty member in 1911 when the school was in what is now City Hall.
Miss Acuff's home is at 4615 Florence Rd. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
She leaves sisters, Mrs. Alberta Rawlston and Dr. Ethel A. Poore, both of Knoxville.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. tomorrowat Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Rose Mortuary.
