Lance Cpl Edwardo J. Lopez, 21, of Aurora, Ill., died Oct. 19 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. Lance Cpl. Lopez enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2004, was a U.S. Marine sniper who was deployed to Iraq fall of 2006. He previously served nine months in Afghanistan returning home in August before shipping out to Iraq. Eddie graduated from East Aurora High School in 2003. He loved cooking and could make his own tortillas. His mother described him as someone who watched out for neighbors. like the time one couldn't get her front door locked late one night and he went over to help. He was a fan of war movies and paintball games, an outgoing man who was dedicated to his country. Eddie loved what he did. He was born to Eduardo and Martha Lopez. He is survived by his parents, a brother, Alejandro Lopez; maternal grandparents, Zeferino and Julia Alonzo. Edwardo is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Agustin Lopez and Elisa Reyes Reyes. He was 21.
