MRS. V. B. WATTS
Cora Gertrude Shore was the daughter of Alfred and Jennie Shore and was born in Lucas county, Iowa, November 25, 1870. She passed away at her home in Upper Lake, Calif., on July 6, 1944, following an illness of several months.
She was married to Volney B. Watts on November 7, 1897, at Russell, Iowa, where they lived on a farm. In 1938 the couple came to Upper Lake. Six children were born to this union, four boys and two girls, the eldest passing in infancy.
She and her husband were united with the Presbyterian church until 1899 when she affiliated with the Seventh Day Adventist church. In 1900 her husband entered the ministry and they labored together for the salvation of souls.
The deceased was a devoted Christian mother, training her children in the fear of God, instilling in their minds the precepts of God's Holy Law and love of God and man. Three children, Fern, Ralph and Helen, have spent many years in the Orient as missionaries and Helen is now on her way home from South Africa with her husband and children. Mrs. Watts remained a faithful member of her church to the time of her death.
Surviving are J. Bruce Watts, of Woodland, Burl, of Lodi, Ralph, of New York City, Fern Forshee, of Washington, D.C., and Helen Baykin, of South Africa. Others who mourn her death are eleven grandchildren, one great grandchild, a brother, Bert Shore, of Chariton, Iowa, a sister, Mrs. Hattie Johnston of Columbia, Iowa, and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held the following Sunday afternoon at the Upper Lake Community church, followed by burial in the Upper Lake cemetery.
