They had five children in 10 years; Clara Parks Crockett, Ora Parks Lowe, R. L. Parks, Melvin Parks Sr. and Margaret Parks Wilson.
He later married Kate Russell.
He died on November 14, 1936, in San Augustine, Texas, at the age of 62, and was buried there.
