She was born in Brownsville, Kentucky on December 23, 1921 to Tony Tomes and Benny Bolton Tomes.
Sarah worked for over 20 years with the Monroe County Community School Corporation in food service and was a longtime member of the Bloomington Free Methodist Church. She was also a very active volunteer in the Bloomington community for years.
She leaves behind her son Ross Brown and wife Karen; granddaughters Heather Brown and Kelly Hammond and husband Keith, and great granddaughter Sarah M. Brown, all of Florida. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Sarah was predeceased by her parents, husband Homer Brown in 1970, and siblings Dora Hack, Artie Heil, Katie Nash, Barnett Tomes, Eva Burris, Mary Boudreaux, Roy Tomes and Thomas Tomes.
